Over two weeks, with rain interruptions and changing venues, Softball NSW hosted this year's edition of the Over 35 Men's State Championship at Georges River Softball Association last weekend with seven teams from across the state vying for the title. The championship was action-packed with great conditions for softball bringing out plenty of spectators to witness their teams in action featuring high-calibre talent within this age category.
The 2024 Over 35 Men's State Championship featured the following teams:
Campbelltown/Orange
Cumberland Nepean
Georges River
Macarthur
Newcastle
Penrith City
Southern Districts
Grand Final
The 2024 Over 35 Men's Grand Final featured arguably the two best teams from across the weekend in Softball Macarthur and Penrith City with both teams full of confidence heading into the Grand Final after producing scintillating softball in their respective semi-finals against Newcastle and Southern Districts. The first two innings were a strong indication that Softball Macarthur was the team to beat this weekend in their quest to defend their title with a dominant batting performance to score 11 unanswered runs after Penrith City scored the opening run. The key individual performance highlighted by two out-of-the-park home runs was James Darby in combination with his strong pitching performance laid the foundations for his teammates to continue Macarthur's strong start to the Grand Final. Penrith City gave their absolute all to get back in the contest with some spectacular outfielding and great base hitting, however, Macarthur restricted any opportunities for Penrith City to cross home plate with excellent fielding closing out the third inning and the game with a dominant 11-1 victory to defend their title in a one-sided Grand Final.
