2023 Softball NSW Blue Blaze - Review

Published Mon 09 Oct 2023

Over a fantastic two weeks of competition featuring Girls' and Boys' tournaments, Blacktown International Sportspark hosted the 2023 Softball NSW Blue Blaze Tournament. Both the Girls' and Boys' tournaments featured both Fully Loaded and Fastpitch competitions showcasing future softball talent from our various clubs across the state competing against ISA New Zealand.

On Day 1 of the Girls Blue Blaze Tournament, the Fully Loaded Girls Grand Final featured thrilling and action-packed softball from both ISA New Zealand and Kissing Point with ISA New Zealand taking the honours 8-7 in a nail-biting Grand Final. The action continued on Day 2 with the Fastpitch competition commencing, with both ISA New Zealand and Kissing Point setting the pace to be atop of the standings. Unfortunately, there was no finals action in the Fastpitch competition on Day 3 for the Girls due to the weather, hereby declaring ISA New Zealand as the winner of the Fastpitch competition with Kissing Point finishing runners up based on the standings at the end of the round matches.

The following week and building upon the momentum of a great tournament for the Girls, the Boys Blue Blue Blaze Tournament commenced with Day 1 action featuring the Fully Loaded competition. The competition featured exciting softball and fun across the diamonds, with our players from NSW enjoying the experience of playing against international competition. After an action-packed morning and afternoon of softball, the Boy's Fully Loaded Grand Final featured a battle between ISA New Zealand Black & ISA New Zealand White. The Grand Final was a nailbiting contest with ISA New Zealand Black edging out their opposition ISA New Zealand White 11-10 in a fantastic game of softball.

Day 2 of the tournament was meant to commence the start of the Boys' Fastpitch competition, however, this was also washed out due to weather. On Day 3 we were fortunate to start the Boys Fastpitch competition featuring a single round-robin tournament, with ISA New Zealand Black finishing atop of the standings to be declared the winners, with Kissing Point edging out ISA New Zealand White via a countback to finish as runners up.

Softball NSW would like to express a massive thank you to our clubs, players, officials and ISA New Zealand for making the 2023 Softball NSW Blue Blaze Tournament a fantastic success in an experience our players will look back on in the future.
